The Wicklow Mountains National Park in County Wicklow, Ireland has some amazing sites to be seen from the air, a small sample of which I share here in this video. The environment here has been shaped largely through glaciation, with the lake, river and mountain system carved by glaciers over the course of thousands of years until the end of the last ice age. This forms very wide valleys, deep lakes and of course pyramidal peaks of mountains with scree and glacial dropstones visible all over the landscape of the Wicklow mountains.
These clips were obtained using the original DJI Mavic drone which I have been using to generate vegetation maps of environments I visit using various filters on the drone camera itself to view vegetation in the Near-infrared in order to create vegetation index photographs for use in mapping. It is hoped that this work will allow for easy and cheap implementation of vegetation monitoring through the use of simple filters on existing camera technology worldwide to allow for up to date monitoring of fragile ecosystems as the climate changes and to mitigate and halt destruction of the biosphere.
